Rainforest Connector – Alberta Technology to Improve Social Well-being
January 14 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pmFREE
Topic: Alberta Technology to Improve Social Well-being
Speaker: Kurt Kinnear, Calgary Entrepreneur (www.hubudub.com) and Community Builder (Top 40 Under 40)
Kurt is dedicated to creating healthy communities through leadership and innovation – turning around the UofC Outdoor Centre, initiating the Outdoor Council of Canada, and forming Active Living.
Realizing people were spending more and more time online, and less time utilizing the services offered to improve their well-being – Kurt created a funnel (Hubudub) to easily add and display all campus events for the students, then added points and rewards for attendance. As a result Active Living saw 90,000 more students a year in their facilities and a 20% increase in attendance at participating events. The students provided feedback, many stating that they were lonely and disengaged and this program gave them the nudge to show up. They were able to connect with the resources and teams trying to help them. Kurt started working on a new, improved platform that has launched with YMCA Calgary, Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Winsport, Canadian Blood Services, and recently Mount Royal University. This includes rewards partners, like Montana’s, who are dedicated to improving our communities. Hubudub provides the right tools for community partners to help people show up and change lives.

What is the Rainforest?
Rainforest Alberta is an informal initiative to support Alberta’s innovation ecosystems. The traditional way of doing things simply doesn’t work anymore, and we want Albertan’s to know that they won’t have to move away to invent, prosper, or build an innovative business.
